Dama is a two-player board game that belongs to the same family of games as Chess and Checkers. It is a traditional game played in the Philippines, as well as other parts of the world such as the Middle East and parts of Europe.

The objective of the game is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them from making any further moves. The game is played on a checkerboard grid with alternating light and dark squares. Each player starts with 12 pieces, placed on the first three rows of the board.

The pieces move diagonally, one square at a time, and can only move forward until they reach the last row of the board. At this point, the piece is promoted to a "dama" and gains the ability to move and capture both forwards and backwards.

Capturing in Dama is similar to capturing in Checkers. If a player's piece is adjacent to an opponent's piece and the space behind it is empty, they can jump over their opponent's piece and capture it. Multiple captures can be made on the same turn, as long as the player continues to jump over opponent's pieces and lands on an empty square.

Unlike other variations of checkers, in Dama there are several additional rules that make the game more challenging and exciting. For example, once a player makes a capture, they are forced to make another capture if possible. This is known as the "mandatory capture" rule, and it can lead to complex and strategic gameplay.

There are also specific rules surrounding the promotion of pieces and the timing of certain moves. Understanding these rules is essential to becoming a skilled player and emerging victorious in Dama.
